Educational Philosophy

"Behind every child who believes in themselves is a teacher who believed in them first."

Every child who enters the classroom brings his or her own personality, sets of experiences, schemas and positive assets. These unique aspects of each student deserve to be embraced and celebrated! As a teacher, I have the responsibility of making everybody feel like a somebody. This is why, in my classroom, I will make it a top priority to emphasize the idea that our classroom is a community as we are all learning and growing together. I will keep the environment of my classroom personable and engaging by learning the interests of my students, and incorporating them into my lessons. I believe teaching with a constructivist lens gives students a leadership role in their learning journey. I will keep my students eager to learn through constructivist, student-centered lessons, complemented by multi-sensory elements wherever possible. I develop and implement lessons structured by a three-part, gradual release of responsibility model: I do, We Do, You Do. I will differentiate my instruction by working with small groups and using visual, auditory and kinesthetic cues to ensure each student is learning to the best of his or her ability. Through a "Class Constitution", I will establish explicit routines and expectations with my students to ensure that they have a voice in their learning experience. By using positive reinforcement, logical consequences and thoughtful student reflection, I can prompt students to make positive behavioral choices that benefit our learning community as a whole.
